In 2012, The High Value Healthcare Collaborative (HVHC) received a $26 million award (1C1CMS331029) from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) to implement shared decision making processes and tools across 15 member organizations for patients with diabetes or congestive heart failure and patients considering hip, knee or spine surgery.
Dartmouth serves as the facilitator and data convener for HVHC member organizations, which collectively serve a market of more than 70 million people across the United States. The goal is to achieve a healthcare cost savings of $64 million over three years, largely through reduced utilization and costs that have been shown to occur when patients are engaged and empowered to make health care decisions based on their own values and preferences.
